Abstract

As a crucial piece of equipment in the power system, high-voltage switchgear undertakes the role of distributing, controlling, and protecting electrical energy. For beginners, understanding the basic structure, classification, and safety knowledge of high-voltage switchgear is the first step into this field. This article will focus on these three aspects in detail, aiming to provide beginners with a comprehensive and practical introductory guide.

 I. Basic Structure of High-Voltage Switchgear

High-voltage switchgear mainly consists of a cabinet, busbar system, circuit breaker, disconnector switch, transformer, surge arrester, grounding switch, control circuit, and auxiliary equipment.

1. Cabinet: The cabinet is the outer shell of the high-voltage switchgear, usually made of metal material, with good protection level, which can prevent electric shock and the influence of external factors on the equipment. The inside of the cabinet is usually divided into several compartments for installing different electrical equipment.

2. Busbar System: The busbar is the main circuit part of the high-voltage switchgear, used to transmit electrical energy. The busbar is usually made of copper or aluminum, with high conductivity and good mechanical strength. The busbar system is fixed in the cabinet by insulators to ensure isolation from other parts.

3. Circuit Breaker: The circuit breaker is the core equipment in the high-voltage switchgear, used to quickly cut off the current in the event of a circuit fault, protecting the circuit and equipment safety. The circuit breaker has two operation modes: manual and electric, which can be flexibly controlled as needed.

4. Disconnector Switch: The disconnector switch is mainly used to isolate the high-voltage power supply, ensuring the safety of maintenance and operation personnel. The disconnector switch can connect or disconnect the circuit when the circuit is not under load.

5. Transformer: The transformer is used to convert high-voltage current into low-voltage current, which is convenient for measuring and protecting the normal operation of the equipment. Current transformers and voltage transformers are two common types of transformers in high-voltage switchgear.

6. Surge Arrester: The surge arrester is used to prevent lightning overvoltage from damaging the high-voltage switchgear, protecting the equipment from lightning strikes.

7. Grounding Switch: The grounding switch is used to ground the equipment during equipment maintenance, ensuring personnel safety.

8. Control Circuit and Auxiliary Equipment: The control circuit is used to control the closing and opening operations of the circuit breaker, and auxiliary equipment such as indicator lights, buttons, and meters are used to display equipment status and provide operation instructions.

II. Classification of High-Voltage Switchgear

High-voltage switchgear can be divided into various types according to different classification criteria. The common classification methods are as follows:

1. Classified by structure: It can be divided into fixed high-voltage switchgear and handcart type (removable) high-voltage switchgear. The equipment of fixed high-voltage switchgear is installed in a fixed position and cannot be moved; the equipment of handcart type high-voltage switchgear is installed on the handcart, which can easily enter and exit the cabinet, which is convenient for maintenance and replacement.

2. Classified by use: It can be divided into incoming line cabinet, outgoing line cabinet, metering cabinet, PT cabinet (voltage transformer cabinet), CT cabinet (current transformer cabinet), capacitor cabinet, etc. Each cabinet has its specific purpose and function.

3. Classified by insulation medium: It can be divided into air-insulated high-voltage switchgear and gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear (such as SF6 gas-insulated cabinet). Air-insulated high-voltage switchgear uses air as the insulation medium, with simple structure and low cost; gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear uses SF6 gas as the insulation medium, with excellent insulation performance and arc extinguishing performance.

III. Safety Knowledge of High-Voltage Switchgear

When using and maintaining high-voltage switchgear, safety operation procedures must be strictly followed to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. Here are some basic safety tips:

1. Check before operation: Before operating the high-voltage switchgear, you must check the status of the equipment and confirm that there is no abnormality before proceeding with the operation.

2. Wear protective equipment: Operators must wear qualified insulated gloves, insulated boots and other protective equipment to prevent electric shock accidents.

3. Grounding protection: When repairing high-voltage switchgear, the equipment must be grounded to ensure personnel safety.

4. Prevent misoperation: High-voltage switchgear is usually equipped with interlocking devices to prevent accidents caused by misoperation. Operators must be familiar with the working principle of the interlocking device and operate in strict accordance with the operating procedures.

5. Regular inspection and maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain the high-voltage switchgear, and promptly identify and deal with potential safety hazards.

6. Training and education: Operators must receive professional training and education.
