Abstract

The middle cabinet, as an important component of the power system, undertakes the key tasks of distributing, controlling, and protecting electrical energy. However, during long-term operation, the middle cabinet may encounter various faults that affect the stability and safety of the power system. This article will comprehensively analyze common faults of the middle cabinet and their repair methods, from console anomalies to equipment short circuits, providing practical repair guidelines for maintenance personnel.

1. Console Abnormal Faults and Repairs

The console is the brain of the middle cabinet, responsible for receiving and sending operation commands and monitoring equipment status. Console abnormalities usually manifest as no display on the screen, malfunctioning operation buttons, abnormal indicator lights, etc.

1. No display on the screen

- Possible causes: power failure, display screen damage, loose connection cables.

- Repair method: First check whether the power supply is normal. If the power supply is fine, check whether the display screen connection cable is loose or damaged, and replace the display screen if necessary.

2. Operation buttons malfunctioning

- Possible causes: button damage, control circuit failure.

- Repair method: Check if the buttons are intact. If damaged, replace with new buttons; if normal, check the control circuit to eliminate loose wiring, relay faults, and other issues.

3. Indicator light abnormality

- Possible causes: indicator light damage, control logic error.

- Repair method: Replace damaged indicator lights; if the indicator lights are normal, check the control logic to ensure the indicator lights correctly reflect the equipment status.

2. Circuit Breaker Faults and Repairs

The circuit breaker is the core component in the middle cabinet, responsible for circuit connection and protection. Circuit breaker faults usually manifest as inability to properly open or close the circuit, or false operations.

1. Unable to properly open or close the circuit

- Possible causes: operation power failure, control circuit failure, operation mechanism failure.

- Repair method: Check the operation power voltage to ensure it is within the specified range; check control circuit wiring and tighten loose terminals; inspect the operation mechanism and clean, lubricate, or repair any stuck parts.

2. False operation

- Possible causes: protection device false operation, operation mechanism mis-trip, poor insulation in secondary circuit.

- Repair method: Check the protection device settings to ensure correctness; inspect the trip device of the operation mechanism, adjust or replace springs; check insulation resistance of the secondary circuit, locate and repair insulation damage if found.

3. Busbar and Connection Faults and Repairs

The busbar and connection parts are key paths for power transmission in the middle cabinet. Their faults usually manifest as overheating or burning.

  1. Busbar overheating

- Possible causes: loose busbar connection bolts, oxidized or dirty busbar contact surfaces.

- Repair method: Use a torque wrench to tighten busbar connection bolts to the specified torque; clean the busbar contact surfaces to remove oxidation and dirt, then apply conductive grease to reduce contact resistance.

2. Connection part burning

- Possible causes: poor contact at connection parts, overload operation.

- Repair method: Clean the burnt parts, reconnect and ensure good contact; check load conditions, and if overloaded, adjust the load or increase cable cross-section.

4. Equipment Short Circuit Faults and Repairs

Equipment short circuit is one of the most serious faults in the middle cabinet, which may cause equipment damage or even fire.

  1. Short circuit causes

- Possible causes: insulation material aging, condensation causing insulation breakdown; arc pressure impact causing insufficient cabinet strength; use of non-original or non-standard components leading to unstable performance.

- Repair method: Regularly check the condition of insulation materials and replace aging insulation promptly; strengthen cabinet sealing and dehumidification measures; prioritize using original spare parts and avoid non-standard component substitutions.

2. Short circuit handling

- When a short circuit fault occurs, immediately cut off the fault power supply to prevent fault expansion. Then, use an insulation resistance tester to measure the insulation resistance at the fault location, locate the insulation breakdown point and repair it. If the cabinet is severely damaged, replace the damaged parts or the entire middle cabinet.

Common faults of the middle cabinet involve console abnormalities, circuit breaker faults, busbar and connection faults, and equipment short circuits. Maintenance personnel should be proficient in these repair methods to ensure the stable operation of the middle cabinet. At the same time, strengthening preventive maintenance and regular inspections are also important measures to reduce fault rates and improve equipment reliability. By comprehensively applying these repair guidelines and preventive measures, the safe and stable operation of the power system can be ensured.
