Abstract

1) Cable branching function. A long-distance line often has multiple small area cables, which can lead to waste in cable usage. Therefore, from the outgoing line to the load, the outgoing line often uses a trunk cable, and when the load approaches, the cable branch box divides the trunk cable into several small area cables that connect to the load. This wiring method is widely used in urban power supply for street lights and small users.

2) Cable transmission function. On relatively long lines, if the length of the cable does not meet the requirements of the line, cable connectors or cable junction boxes must be used. Generally, a single cable intermediate joint is used for short distances, but when the line is longer, based on experience, if there are multiple intermediate joints in the cable, to ensure safety, the cable branch box will consider making a transition.

Urban cables often use dual-loop power supply, so some people directly refer to branch boxes with switches as outdoor ring network cabinets. However, most ring network cabinets currently cannot achieve distribution automation. Nevertheless, manufacturers have introduced outdoor ring network cabinets that can be automated, which also blurs the lines between cable branch boxes and ring network cabinets.
