Abstract

304 stainless steel is a commonly seen type of stainless steel, also known in the industry as 18/8 stainless steel. Its corrosion resistance is superior to that of 30 stainless iron, and it is resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, with good processing capabilities. Therefore, it is widely used in industrial and furniture decoration work as well as in food and medical industries, such as some high-end stainless steel tableware, bathroom and kitchen utensils, and stainless steel distribution boxes.

304 stainless steel is a commonly seen type of stainless steel, also known in the industry as 18/8 stainless steel. Its corrosion resistance is superior to that of 30 stainless iron, it is resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, and has good processing properties, making it widely used in industrial and furniture decoration work as well as in food and medical industries. For example: some high-end stainless steel tableware, bathroom kitchen utensils, and stainless steel distribution boxes.

Although this type of stainless steel is very common domestically, the name '304 stainless steel' actually comes from the United States. Many people believe that 304 stainless steel is a type name from Japan, but strictly speaking, the official name for 304 stainless steel in Japan is 'SUS304'. The common marking methods on the market include 06Cr19Ni10, S30408, and SUS304. Among them, 06Cr19Ni10 generally indicates production according to national standards, S30408 generally indicates production according to ASTM standards, and SUS304 indicates production according to Japanese standards. 304 is a versatile stainless steel that is widely used to manufacture equipment and components that require excellent comprehensive properties (corrosion resistance and formability). To maintain the inherent corrosion resistance of stainless steel, the steel must contain more than 17% chromium and more than 8% nickel. 304 stainless steel is a trademark of stainless steel produced according to American ASTM standards.

304 stainless steel is the most widely used type of chromium-nickel stainless steel. As a versatile steel, it has excellent corrosion resistance, heat resistance, low-temperature strength, and mechanical properties; it has good hot workability such as stamping and bending, with no heat treatment hardening phenomenon (non-magnetic, operating temperature -196℃~800℃). It is resistant to corrosion in the atmosphere; if in an industrial environment or heavily polluted area, it needs to be cleaned promptly to avoid corrosion. It is suitable for food processing, storage, and transportation. It has excellent processing properties and weldability. Applications include plate heat exchangers, corrugated pipes, household items (class 1 and 2 tableware, cabinets, indoor pipelines, water heaters, boilers, bathtubs), automotive parts (windshield wipers, mufflers, molded products), medical instruments, building materials, chemicals, food industry, agriculture, ship components, etc. 304 stainless steel is recognized as food-grade stainless steel by the state.
