Abstract

Maintenance and upkeep of the power distribution cabinet requires attention.

  • Regular cleaning
    • External cleaning: The surface of the power distribution cabinet should be regularly cleaned of dust and dirt. Excessive dust accumulation may affect the heat dissipation performance of the cabinet and may also contain conductive materials, which could cause short circuits in humid environments. A clean dry cloth or soft brush can be used to gently wipe the surface of the cabinet, and for stubborn stains, a small amount of mild detergent can be used, but care should be taken to avoid letting the detergent enter the interior of the distribution cabinet.
    • Internal cleaning: Internal cleaning is particularly important because electrical components attract dust during operation. When cleaning the interior, power must first be turned off, and it must be ensured that energy storage components such as capacitors are fully discharged. A small vacuum cleaner or hair dryer (set to cool) can be used to remove dust from the interior, focusing on the surfaces and gaps of electrical components such as circuit breakers, contactors, and relays. For areas with oil stains, a specialized electrical equipment cleaner can be used for wiping.
  • Electrical component inspection and maintenance
    • Circuit breaker inspection: Regularly check whether the operating mechanism of the circuit breaker is flexible and whether the opening and closing actions are normal. Check for wear on the contacts; if they are severely worn, it may lead to poor contact, increased contact resistance, and potentially cause overheating or even fire. At the same time, check whether the setting value of the trip unit meets requirements to ensure it operates normally during overload or short circuit. It is generally recommended to check circuit breakers at least once a year and adjust the inspection cycle based on actual usage.
    • Contactor and relay inspection: Check whether there is any burning or sticking phenomenon on the contacts of contactors and relays. For frequently operated contactors, such as those controlling motor forward and reverse rotation, inspections should be intensified. The condition of the contacts can be judged by observing their surface color and shape; if there are black burn marks or deformation on the surface, it may be necessary to replace the contacts. At the same time, check whether the insulation performance of the coil and working voltage are normal to ensure it can engage and release properly.
    • Fuse inspection: Fuses primarily serve as short circuit protection; therefore, it is necessary to regularly check whether the fuse element has blown. If it has blown, analyze whether it was due to normal overload or caused by other faults. Also, check whether the fuse connections are good and whether screws at connection points are loose.
  • Connection point inspection
    • Screw tightening inspection: There are many connection screws inside the power distribution cabinet used to secure electrical components and connect wires. These screws may loosen due to vibrations during equipment operation. Regularly use appropriate tools to check and tighten screws, especially at connection points for high current devices like circuit breakers and contactors. Loose screws may lead to increased contact resistance, causing overheating and arcing.
    • Wire connection inspection: Check whether wire connections are secure and if there are any signs of overheating or discoloration. Good wire connections should be tight without looseness, oxidation, or corrosion. The color at wire connection points can indicate overheating; if wires appear darker or even blackened, it may indicate issues that need prompt attention. Additionally, check whether the insulation layer of wires is intact; damaged insulation may lead to leakage.
  • Heat dissipation system maintenance
    • Ventilation port inspection: Power distribution cabinets typically have ventilation ports for heat dissipation. Regularly check whether these ports are blocked to ensure good ventilation. Blocked ventilation ports can cause internal temperatures to rise, affecting electrical component performance and lifespan. Use a brush to clean dust and debris from ventilation ports and avoid stacking items near them.
    • Fan inspection (if applicable): For some distribution cabinets equipped with cooling fans, check whether the fan operates normally. You can determine this by observing whether fan blades rotate and listening for normal operating sounds from the fan. If a fan malfunctions, it should be replaced promptly to ensure that heat inside the cabinet can dissipate in a timely manner.
  • Insulation performance testing
    • Regular insulation resistance testing: Use an insulation resistance tester to regularly measure insulation resistance within the distribution cabinet, including between phases and between phases and ground. The insulation resistance values should meet relevant standard requirements; generally, low-voltage power distribution cabinets should not have insulation resistance lower than 0.5MΩ. If insulation resistance is too low, it may indicate insulation damage or moisture issues that require further inspection and handling.
    • Dielectric strength testing (if necessary): In specific situations such as equipment modification, after maintenance or after long periods of inactivity before reactivation, dielectric strength testing may be required. Dielectric strength testing must strictly follow relevant standards and operating procedures using appropriate dielectric strength testing equipment with correct test voltage and duration settings to ensure that the distribution cabinet can withstand specified voltages without insulation breakdown.
  • Functional testing and calibration
    • Protection function testing: Test protection functions of the distribution cabinet such as overload protection and short circuit protection. This can be done by simulating overload or short circuit conditions to observe whether protective elements like circuit breakers or fuses act in a timely manner. At the same time, check whether thermal relay setting values are accurate to ensure effective overload protection for motors and other equipment.
    • Instrument calibration: Instruments such as voltmeters and ammeters on power distribution cabinets should be calibrated regularly. Standard measuring equipment can be used for comparison and calibration of instruments to ensure display accuracy. Inaccurate instruments may lead operators to misjudge equipment operating status, thereby affecting safe operation.
