Abstract

As two mainstream low-voltage withdrawable switchgear, GCS and MNS have significant differences in structural design, functional characteristics, and application scenarios. A detailed comparison is as follows:

I. Core Design Differences
Origin and Standards
GCS: Independently developed by China's Sentron Electric (launched in 1996), conforming to the domestic standard JB/T 9661.
MNS: Originating from ABB technology in Switzerland, conforming to the international standard IEC 60439, with stronger compatibility.
Frame Structure
GCS: Adopts 8MF (KS) type steel assembly, with higher strength (can withstand 80kA short-circuit current).
MNS: Uses C (KB) type steel, with a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, but slightly lower strength.
Drawer Mechanism
GCS: Equipped with a rotary pushing mechanism (CJG series), operating torque ≤20N·m, effortless insertion and extraction.
MNS: Adopts a large interlocking mechanism, with better drawer stability, but greater insertion and extraction resistance.
Module and Layout
GCS: Module E=20mm, a single cabinet can accommodate up to 22 drawers (11 layers), no 1/4 unit design.
MNS: Module E=25mm, supports double-sided cabinet layout, a single cabinet can accommodate up to 72 drawers (including 1/4 unit), stronger scalability.

II. Application Scenarios and Cost
GCS Applicable Scenarios
High Current Demand: Such as main power distribution in steel plants and chemical plants, capable of carrying currents exceeding 4000A.
Cost-Sensitive Projects: The initial cost is 15%-20% lower than MNS, suitable for domestic projects with limited budgets.
Case: A certain chemical plant uses GCS-6300A main cabinet, equipped with 24 2500A drawers, to achieve hot-swappable quick maintenance.
MNS Applicable Scenarios
High-Density Power Distribution: Data centers, commercial complexes, etc., requiring multiple circuits (such as 72 drawers).
Export Projects: Conforms to IEC standards, no secondary certification required, adaptable to overseas grid requirements.
Case: An overseas photovoltaic power station uses MNS-6300A cabinet to isolate DC/AC circuits and avoid interference.

III. Maintenance and Reliability
GCS Maintenance Points
Mechanical Lubrication: Requires lubrication of the worm gear box every six months to prevent jamming.
Heat Dissipation Optimization: Forced air cooling can reduce temperature rise (cost approximately 2000 yuan/cabinet).
MNS Maintenance Points
Waterproof Design: Install a rain cover on the top to prevent water leakage in the double-layer structure.
Module Compatibility: Avoid mixing modules from different brands to reduce rework risks.

IV. Selection Suggestions
Prioritize GCS: Limited budget, high current demand, domestic projects.
Prioritize MNS: High reliability requirements, international projects, small current intensive scenarios.
Hybrid Solution: Use MNS for the main feeder to ensure scalability, and GCS for branch circuits to reduce costs.
