(1) Fire prevention issues: Box-type substations are generally fully sealed and operate without personnel on duty. Although all equipment operates without oil and is equipped with a remote smoke alarm system, there are still fire hazards inside the cabinet, such as cables and compensation capacitors. Once a fire occurs, it is conducive to ventilation and firefighting. Therefore, an automatic fire extinguishing system should be considered in the design, but this will increase the manufacturing cost of the box-type substation.

(2) Capacity expansion issues: Due to size and manufacturing cost limitations, the capacity expansion margin in the outgoing area of box-type substations is relatively small. It is difficult to add one or two outgoing intervals on the original box body; additional cabinets must be added to achieve this.

(3) Maintenance issues: Due to considerations of manufacturing costs and size limitations during the manufacturing process, box-type substations have limited maintenance space, which is not conducive to equipment maintenance, especially for emergency repairs. This is an inherent shortcoming of box-type substations and a difficult disadvantage to overcome.
