Abstract

Box-type substations, which are widely used currently, consume a large amount of electrical energy after long periods of operation, leading to a decrease in efficiency. The newly developed reactive power compensation technology can save reactive power, thereby reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency.

The output power of the power grid includes two parts: one is active power; the second is reactive power.

Directly consuming electrical energy, converting the electrical energy in the box-type substation into mechanical energy, thermal energy, chemical energy, or sound energy, and using this energy to do work is called active power;

It does not consume electrical energy but converts electrical energy into another form of energy, which can serve as a condition for the box-type substation to do work. This energy periodically converts with electrical energy in the power grid. This part of the power is called reactive power, for example, the electrical energy occupied by electromagnetic components and the electric field occupied by capacitors. When current works in inductive components, the current lags behind the voltage by 90°. When current works in capacitive components, the current leads the voltage by 90°. In the same circuit, the directions of inductive current and capacitive current are opposite, differing by 180°. If capacitive components are proportionally installed in the circuit of electromagnetic components in the box-type substation, the currents of the two components will cancel each other out, and the angle between the current vector and voltage vector will decrease.

The reactive power compensation of box-type substations can transform and eliminate reactive power that does not affect equipment operation during operation, thus achieving energy-saving effects and significantly improving work efficiency and corporate income.
