Abstract

With the development of the economy and technology, the use of cables for power supply in urban power grids has become an inevitable trend in the development of distribution networks. Ring network power supply has become the preferred form of cable in distribution networks due to its economy and reliability. As urban distribution networks develop, the proportion of ring network power supply in user power supply schemes is increasing, and cable branch boxes, as the main equipment for ring network power supply, are receiving more and more attention from power supply departments and users. Cable branch boxes have many applications, mainly used in ring network machine rooms, distribution substations, distribution boxes, pre-installed substations, etc.

The essence of classifying cable branch boxes is the use of different load switches, so cable branch boxes are also named after load switches. A load switch is a switching device that lies between a circuit breaker and an isolating switch. The arc-extinguishing device is simple and can cut off rated load current and certain overload currents, but cannot cut off short-circuit currents. The structure of a load switch is more similar to an arc-extinguishing device than an isolating switch, but simpler than a circuit breaker. The switch and high-voltage fuse are connected in series to form a combined electrical device, which can replace expensive circuit breakers. The switch cuts off negative load current, while the fuse cuts off short-circuit and overload currents, reducing the cost of distribution equipment and simplifying operation and maintenance. The main performance of a cable branch box depends on the performance of the load switch used. Therefore, the development process of cable branch boxes is essentially the development process of load switches. The development and application of cable branch boxes have basically gone through the evolution from gas-insulated ring network cabinets to pressurized gas and vacuum ring network cabinets, as well as SF6 semi-gas-insulated and fully gas-insulated ring network cabinets.

With the arrival of the electronic age, our world has become brighter. With the development of distribution network wiring, if the independent load capacity is small but concentrated in distribution, multiple branch cables can be connected using a cable branch box.

Function of cable branch box: When there are multiple small capacity cables on long-distance lines, it often leads to excessive consumption of cables. Therefore, between outgoing lines and power loads, it is always preferable to use a main cable for outgoing lines. Near the load, a cable branch box divides the main cable into several small capacity cables so that these small cables can connect to loads. This wiring method is widely used in street lighting power supply in urban power grids.
