Abstract

The main function of a cable branching box is to tap or transfer cables: the function of cable tapping is that there are many small area cables on long-distance lines, which often leads to waste in cable usage. Therefore, during the process of outgoing lines to power loads, trunk cables are often used for outgoing lines, and then, close to the load, the cable branching box is used to split the trunk cable into several smaller area cables that connect to the load. This wiring method is widely used in urban power grid street lighting and small user power supply.

Cable switching function. On relatively long lines, the length of the cable may not meet the line requirements, so cable connectors or cable transition boxes need to be used. Generally, intermediate connectors are used for short distances. However, when the line is relatively long, based on experience, if there are multiple intermediate joints in the middle of the cable, in order to ensure safety, consideration will be given to using a cable branch box for transition.

Cable branch boxes are widely used outdoors. With the development of technology, more and more cable branch boxes with switches are available. Urban cables often use dual-circuit power supply methods. Therefore, some people directly refer to branch boxes with switches as cable branch boxes. However, currently most of these ring network cabinets cannot achieve distribution automation, but manufacturers have launched cable branch boxes that can achieve distribution network automation.

The demand for cable branch boxes is increasing. In some places, there are special requirements for cable branch boxes that need to meet specific customer needs and require customization. Therefore, for those that need to meet actual needs and be custom-made, several aspects need to be considered to ensure quality. Only with guaranteed quality will customers purchase and feel assured. For example:

For the grounding circuit of the cable branch box, the maximum short-term withstand current that the grounding circuit should bear is about 87% of the rated short-term withstand current of the main circuit to ensure the safe use of the cable branch box. We should mark a clear and obvious main wiring diagram outside the operation room door of the cable branch box for warning and use. Generally, a cable branch box should be equipped with a base plate and fire-blocking materials. After installing the cables, gaps in the base plate should be sealed with fire-blocking materials to prevent moisture from rising in the cable trench into the cable branch box.
