Abstract

The box-type substation (referred to as box substation) is a compact complete distribution device that combines high-voltage switchgear, distribution transformers, low-voltage switchgear, energy metering devices, and reactive power compensation devices according to a specific wiring plan within one or several enclosures. It is suitable for extra voltage 10/0.4KV three-phase AC systems, used for line and distribution of electrical energy.

Compared to European-style box substations of the same capacity, American-style box substations have a more reasonable structure. The European-style box substation places the transformer and general high-voltage electrical equipment in the same metal shell, resulting in high temperatures in the transformer room, causing heat dissipation difficulties and affecting output; on the other hand, it uses general high-voltage load switches and fuses, as well as low-voltage switchgear inside the box, making the European-style box substation larger in size.

The American-style box substation differs structurally from the European-style box substation. In terms of layout, its low-voltage room, transformer room, and high-voltage room are arranged in a '品' shape rather than a '目' shape. Structurally, this type of box substation is divided into two parts: the front part includes high and low voltage operating distances, which contain high and low voltage connection terminals, load switch operating handles, no-load voltage regulation section switches, plug-in fuses, oil level gauges, etc.; the rear part consists of an oil tank and heat sinks, placing the transformer windings, core, high-voltage load switch, and fuses inside the transformer oil tank.
